What Your Job Will Be Like:

Are you ready to bring powerful stories to life through innovative visual communication? Sandia National Laboratories Creative Services is looking for an experienced Video Producer & Director to join our dynamic team!

In this role, you¿ll collaborate with specialists and connect with staff and leadership at all levels to create, refine, and manage video projects from start to finish. You¿ll lead every stage of production from concept development and research to scriptwriting, location scouting, filming, lighting, sound design, digital effects, editing, and final delivery ensuring each project exceeds expectations.

On any given day, one may be called upon to:

  • Collaborate closely with staff and leadership to uncover communication needs, providing expert guidance that shapes impactful strategies and influences key decision makers.
  • Drive the creative process from concept to completion by delivering compelling visual communications through exceptional customer service, strong project management, and expert video production skills.
  • Produce a wide variety of videos including promotional, training, marketing, informational, and classified content that engage and inform diverse audiences.
  • Evaluate communication challenges, tailor solutions to meet customer goals, develop strategic concepts, manage budgets, maintain quality standards, and negotiate effectively with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Lead detailed planning and prioritization of communication initiatives to ensure smooth production workflows and timely delivery of high-quality video content.
  • Success in this role requires staying current with emerging video production technologies, industry trends, and storytelling techniques to continuously elevate the quality and impact of visual communications.

Qualified applicants may be asked to provide a portfolio of sample video products if selected for further consideration.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$87,400 - $168,800

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Media Arts, Film/TV, Communications, or a relevant field, plus five (5) or more years of related experience or working in video production; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Experience with the following:
  • Editing full-scale productions with Adobe Premiere or DaVinci Resolve
  • Cinematography and lighting for studio and field conditions
  • Translating technical concepts and material into compelling and strategic communications products
  • Project management; establishing and managing budgets associated with each project and determining the most practical and cost-efficient approach, schedule, and level of quality required to accomplish communication
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • The ability to work in multiple file formats and integrate/output required metadata and media; tech savvy.
  • Knowledge of latest market trends.
  • The ability to conceptualize major elements of media production and related programs and policies, including the delivery of clear and concise communication to appropriate employees and managers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teaming, and negotiation skills.
  • The ability to work effectively in a deadline sensitive environment.
  • The ability to properly manage and protect classified information and maintain special clearances.
  • Knowledge of Sandia's policies, practices, and procedures pertaining to media creation, audiovisual products, and classified documents and media.
  • Familiarity with emerging video technologies such as VR/AR, 360-degree video, and live streaming platforms.
  • Ability to analyze audience metrics and feedback to optimize video content strategy and effectiveness.
  • Knowledge of copyright, licensing, and intellectual property laws related to video production and distribution.
  • Experience developing and maintaining detailed production schedules and resource allocation plans.
  • Ability to create and deliver presentations to stakeholders, incorporating feedback and managing expectations throughout the production lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and best practices for video content, including captioning and audio descriptions.
  • The ability to use multiple camera platforms (Blackmagic, Sony, Arri, etc.).
  • Proven experience managing and mentoring creative teams, freelancers, and vendors to deliver high-quality video content on time and within budget.
  • Strong understanding of audio production techniques, including sound recording, mixing, and post-production audio editing.
  • Experience with color correction and grading workflows to ensure consistent and professional visual quality.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for technical issues related to video production equipment and software.
  • Applying motion graphics software to video work (e.g., Blender, Cinema 4D, etc.).
