Phlebotomy Technicians are integral members of the Medical Laboratory Team whose primary function is the collection of blood samples from patients. Many patients, from children and teens to adults, often find needles and the idea of having their blood drawn frightening. Using your experience and skills, you can help put the patient at ease while obtaining all the required specimens.The phlebotomy team at Akron General works closely with providers to ensure that our patients receive the best care possible and the most reliable specimen collection and results we can provide.
A caregiver in this position worksMonday-Friday from 7:00AM – 2:00PM, including rotating Saturdays.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform blood collection procedures, follow venipunctureproceduresand maintain appropriate log sheets.
Verify order requests andidentifyinformation prior to drawing blood or collecting the specimen/kit.
Label all specimens collected and deliver them to theappropriate processingarea.
Perform specimen processing and send out tasks,including accessioning,centrifugationand packaging.
Pick up and deliver blood, other sampletypesand lab supplies.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
Technicalproficiencywith standard procedures,techniquesand common practices
Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a team environment
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Formal Phlebotomy Certification
One year of phlebotomy experience
Physical Requirements:
- Requires frequent and long durations of standing and walking.
- Visual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $17.95
Maximum hourly: $25.50
