Summary

The Human Genome Sequencing Center (HGSC) at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate to join a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment focused on large-scale human genomics. The Posdoctoral Associate will contribute to cutting-edge genomic research projects involving next-generation sequencing (NGS), data analysis, and the interpretation of genomic variation in health and disease. The HGSC is a world-recognized leader in genome sequencing and analysis, supporting major national and international research initiatives. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to work at the intersection of genomics, bioinformatics, and translational science.

Job Duties

  • Designs, conducts, and analyzes independent and collaborative research projects in human genomics.
  • Performs genomic data analysis using next-generation sequencing platforms (e.g., whole-genome, whole-exome, long-read sequencing).
  • Develops, optimizes, and applies computational or laboratory tools and pipelines for genomic data processing and quality control.
  • Interprets genomic variants and contributes to functional and translational genomics studies.
  • Collaborates with faculty, bioinformaticians, statisticians, and clinical partners across BCM and external consortia.
  • Prepares manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and contributes to grant applications and progress reports.
  • Presents research findings at lab meetings, institutional seminars, and national/international scientific conferences.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of methods, results, and analyses in compliance with institutional and funding requirements.
  • Mentors graduate students, research staff, and trainees as appropriate.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong experience in ne w laboratory genomics method development including DNA sequencing for mutation sequencing.
  • Hands on experience in qPCR, ddPCR.
  • Familiarity with challenges of clinical intrepretation of genetic variation.
  • Proven experience in development of bioinformatic tools for the analysis of DNA sequence variation.
