What Your Job Will Be Like:

Are you a Technical Writer & Editor ready to join Sandia National Laboratories and make an impact on critical technical communications in a collaborative environment with mission partners across the Lab? If so, the Knowledge Management Office, is currently seeking a Technical Writer and Editor to join their dynamic team!

Work will be in collaboration with technical staff, and will allow you to demonstrate agility in addressing, negotiating, prioritizing, and scheduling multiple requests to ensure timely delivery to meet partner expectations.

On any given day, one may be called upon to:

  • Write, edit, and/or rewrite technical content, including publications, manuals, presentations, and other materials, to effectively communicate technical procedures, research findings, and advancements to internal and external audiences
  • Ensure documents meet requirements, are to standard, and are clear, concise, and understandable to the intended audience, both present and future
  • Exercise quality control over documents
  • Interpret and coordinate documentation and communication policies and procedures
  • Facilitate documentation configuration and records management
  • Partner effectively with other Technical Writers and Editors and Information Management Professionals

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range:

$63,800 - $144,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Technical Communications or other relevant field; or equivalent experience and achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the job
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications including Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience using style guide(s)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field
  • Experience with PRIME, PDM Link, and/or SharePoint or like software applications
  • Proven experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Developing style guides
  • Supporting technical initiatives and policies
  • Working with classified or sensitive information
  • Compiling and editing presentations
  • Familiarity with configuration management best practices related to information management
  • Advanced experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word)
  • An active DOE Q-level security clearance; or other equivalent active security clearance such as DOD Top Secret

About Our Team:

The Global Security & Stockpile Systems Knowledge Management team (3242) is part of the Knowledge Management Office (3240), which is composed of highly skilled Technical Writers and Editors and Information Managers. Our experts are matrixed across the Labs to improve the quality and effectiveness of communications.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Position Information:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
