Job Description
Job SummaryWomen’s Health, or Family Nurse Practitioner with background in providing gynecology care, providing healthcare for UTA students primarily involving health maintenance, screening and treatment of disease processes of the ovaries, uterus, vagina and vulva and breasts. Assist other clinical staff with gynecologic consultations when needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive gynecologic healthcare for eligible UTA students including evaluation, diagnosing and treatment of sexually transmitted and other infections of the genitourinary tract, menstrual irregularities including abnormal bleeding and PCOS, abdominal and pelvic pain and breast concerns. Provide health maintenance exams and age appropriate cervical and breast cancer screening. Evaluate and recommend/prescribe contraceptives. Provide initial diagnosis and routine education regarding pregnancy along with referral to community provider.
Appropriately refer students presenting with concerns/diagnoses outside the scope of UTA Health Services including students requiring obstetric care. Follow up on referrals as appropriate.
Review incoming diagnostic test reports and medical records, follow up as appropriate and acknowledge review in the EMR in a timely manner.
Complete and sign patient charts on the day of care unless specific circumstances preclude timely completion.
Comply with Health Services’ infection control plan which includes personally utilizing universal precautions and appropriate PPE. Ensure compliance by other staff.
Provide health education on gynecologic and sexual and reproductive topics to patients and, on occasion, to the broader UTA campus at tabling events or other programs.
Participate in peer review activities and assigned committee meetings including providers committee and other committees as assigned.
Maintain a current, unrestricted Texas nursing license. Complete continuing medical education hours annually as required.
Perform other duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master of Science in Nursing.
National Certification in advanced practice nursing in women’s health or in family health (if certification is for a FNP, candidate should have at least two (2) years’ experience providing gynecology care or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience in similar role.)
Current BLS Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
Three (3) years clinical experience.
College Health experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Standard knowledge of care for practice of gynecologic healthcare.
