Job Description

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cancer Screening, Early Detection, and Cancer Interception

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Department of Medical Oncology, Division of Population Sciences

The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Department of Medical Oncology, Division of Population Sciences, seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow in the McGraw/Patterson Center for Population Sciences. The Center is committed to population-based research aimed at detecting cancer early, preventing cancer at the community level, identifying and evaluating cancer risk in high-risk populations, and measuring the quality and outcomes of cancer therapy.

Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.

We invite applications for a fellowship focused on epidemiological and clinical studies of cancer screening, early detection, and cancer interception, with particular emphasis on multi-cancer early detection (MCED) approaches and novel cancer screening strategies being evaluated in large-scale clinical trials. The fellow will work under the mentorship of Drs. Elizabeth O’Donnell, MD, and Catherine Marinac, PhD, who oversee a research program focused on identifying and testing innovative cancer screening technologies and biologically informed interventions to prevent and intercept cancer.

Areas of research may include:

  • Evaluation of multi-cancer early detection tests and implementation strategies in clinical and population settings
  • Development and testing of biomarkers of early cancer and precancerous states
  • Cancer interception studies aimed at identifying biological and behavioral targets for preventing progression from premalignant to invasive disease
  • Integration of lifestyle, metabolic, and genomic data to refine early detection and prevention strategies
  • Disparities research and risk modeling to optimize equitable deployment of new cancer screening modalities

The fellow will have opportunities to lead analyses within ongoing and newly developed clinical trials, contribute to manuscript preparation and grant development, and design independent projects aligned with the lab’s research portfolio.

Interested candidates should submit an electronic copy of their curriculum vitae and a cover letter describing their research experience, interests, and career goals.

  • Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, genetics/genomics, public health, or related fields.
  • MD candidates with a strong research background will also be considered.
  • Multidisciplinary training and experience across epidemiologic, clinical, and molecular research domains is desirable.
  • Prior experience in large cohort or clinical trial data analysis is advantageous.
