The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University, we provide dental education to the next generation of professionals by offering hands-on education through innovative research, patient care, and service. Join other dental providers to improve the oral health of Georgia and beyond. The DCG was founded to provide the people of Georgia with quality dental care by educating students in dentistry. As a patient, you have the option to receive treatment in one of our three different practice models consisting of student clinics, resident care, or in the faculty practice. All dental treatments can be completed by the specialists in our facility. We also serve patients in more than 20 clinics across Georgia.
Job Summary
This position involves an advanced level of scientific, intellectual, technical, and administrative work in support of the research laboratory of the department of periodontics ('Periodontal Molecular Immunology Laboratory'). Develop research study design and participate in research data collection, analysis, and documentation with relevant guidelines and protocols; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; write manuscripts and publish results in scientific journals. Perform a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, molecular biologic, statistical, and computational procedures.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
GRANT: Read grants supporting the laboratory, and papers produced by the work of the PI and affiliates, design experiments independently and in concert with the PI, obtain and maintain research compliance, including infectious disease, biological, and chemical safety, IACUC, and IRB. Maintain bacterial cultures, cell cultures, and animal colonies. Monitor animal welfare during animal experimentation. Isolate and characterize blood cells of human subjects and mice, extract exosomes Collect classify and store human and animal tissues for molecular analyses. Participate in project planning and development of research protocols, while adhering to accepted scientific principles and ethical standards, and in compliance with local and federal guidelines
EXPERIMENTS: Analyze results of experiments and procedures using statistical or other software. Teach and participate in complex microbiological, chemical, quantitative, cytological, flow cytometry, and molecular biological analyses
RESEARCH: Coordinate and participate in research of the scientific literature to design experiments and interpret results. Develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported in the literature. Present findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally.
PUBLICATIONS: Write papers for publications in scientific journals and review articles prepared by others.
STRATEGIZE: Strategize with PI on the generation of preliminary data and timeline for progress reports, grant renewal, or new grants to be submitted.
OTHER DUTIES: Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. degree from an accredited college or university.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
In-depth knowledge of scientific methods, cellular and molecular biology approaches to test hypotheses, and the quantitative and statistical knowledge to analyze data.
SKILLS
English writing skills and speaking skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Shift: Days/M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum midpoint) of the position.
