Job Description
City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025.
With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. This isn’t standard cancer care. This is lifesaving cancer care. This is Hope.
A professional with qualification together with demonstrated experience at a lead level in a similar environment, or a strong background in security, emergency management or related fields. Specialized knowledge and experience in the operational aspects of security, security systems and parking enforcement and assisting with the development and implementation of strategies and policies relating to these areas.
As a successful candidate, you will:
Daily Operations:
- Lead security officers on shift, operations center operator and badge access. Responsible for security on City of Hope Campus for both clinical and non-clinical buildings, as well as offsite locations.
- Supervise the day-to-day systems and processes for security, locks, access control, CCTV, alarms, traffic management, investigations, event management, permit and public parking, and infringement processing. Security services to be supplied to agreed standards, within budget and to agreed timeframes while maintaining effective relationships with clients across the organization. Utilize two-way radio communication.
Operations Management:
- Undertake investigations into criminal activities and other sensitive matters which may have reputational implications for City of Hope. Recommend strategies to minimize risk, inform management and provide cost effective outcomes. Liaise closely with senior management, police and other regulatory bodies.
- Be available to coordinate the initial response to emergency situations on the City of Hope main campus and work closely with senior management and local & state emergency services.
Budget Management
- Help provide input to the annual operating budgets for security. Assist manager with budgets through their life cycle and ensure targets are met or exceeded.
- With guidance from the manager effectively motivate, and coach staff to achieve prescribed objectives set by the manager by providing clear performance expectations and regular feedback. Document performance outcomes for the manager so that the manager can effectively ensure poor performance is addressed and high performance is recognized and rewarded.
Business Continuity Management
- May be asked to aide in reviewing and updating the City of Hope’s Security Operations Business Continuity Plan, as well as participate in Plan reviews and annual Table Top or Operational Exercises.
Process Improvement
- May assist with producing reports for Committees and Groups as required. Assist in providing Annual Security Reports for: Executive Leadership.
- Conducts investigations in conjunction with the Safety and Occupational Health Department; maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertaining to industrial related injuries. Reviews incident reports submitted by others for completeness and accuracy.
- Investigate complaints and prepares written recommendations to the Security Leadership for appropriate action.
- Maintains knowledge of basic safety regulations and instructs personnel; notifies and records all security and safety hazards.
- Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
- Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as directed.
Your qualifications should include:
Minimum Education:
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent
- Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements
Minimum Experience:
- Five years of security experience
- Preferably in a hospital security setting.
Required Courses/Training:
- AB5O8/management of aggressive behavior Workplace Violence
- FEMA Foundation Emergency Management - preferred
- HICS Basics Training - preferred
Req. Certification/Licensure:
- Current CA Driver’s License
- Guard Registration card
- Pepper Spray permit
- American Heart Association CPR within three months of hire
Additional Information:
- Multiple positions & Multiple Shifts
- Mid Shift: 1500-2330
- Night Shift: 2300-0730

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $25.46 - $36.78 / hour
