Summary
The Sandweiss Lab at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital is seeking a Research Technician II to grow their biomedical research experience with close mentorship by a physician-scientist. The lab is interested in identifying the basic mechanisms that trigger autoimmune encephalitis and use an animal model of anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis to answer basic-science questions about the brain and immune system. This position will be expected to work with mice and viral agents, basic cell culture, microscopy, in vivo imaging modalities, and basic biochemical techniques.
Job Duties
- Works closely with other members of the lab by performing various investigative procedures and operates a variety of instruments and other scientific equipment.
- Collects, records, organizes and verifies the accuracy of data.
- Performs calculations and prepares charts, graphs and reports.
- Uses software applications to assemble and format data and test reports.
- Reads and records instrument data.
- Tabulates data.
- Keeps laboratory records.
- Provides the Principal Investigator with reports on study progress, data forms, data collection, intervention implementation and contacts, as requested.
- Orders chemicals, reagents, and other laboratory supplies.
- Participates in laboratory meetings and planning sessions.
- Maintains animals and cell cultures for experimental purposes.
- Reads literature applicable to research areas.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in rodent research such as handling mice or rats is highly desired.
- Experience with molecular biology, behavioral phenotyping, handling of infectious diseases, and in vivo imaging is a plus.
- Experience with or willingness to learn Microsoft PowerApps, PowerBi, and PowerAutomateis highly desired.
