The Department of Translational Research and Cellular Therapeutics is at the forefront of human islet biology and diabetes research, covering a broad spectrum of research from developmental mechanisms that impact diabetes risk to identifying novel therapeutics targets to promote the regeneration and function of pancreatic beta cells. The main research focus of the Dhawan Lab is to understand the epigenetic mechanisms of the differentiation, growth, and maintenance of beta cells to identify novel therapeutic targets for the prevention and reversal of beta cell dysfunction and loss in diabetes.

As a successful candidate you will:
- Perform a variety of routine and non-routine laboratory research experiments:
Broad spectrum of molecular and cellular biology techniques including, but not limited to mammalian cell culture including primary cultures and stable cell lines, DNA and RNA isolation, RT-PCRs, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, tissue collection and processing, islet physiology, mouse genetics, confocal imaging and image analysis.
· Lead the management of laboratory inventories, prepare stock solutions, handle and dispose biohazardous and non-biohazardous materials according to safety protocols when necessary.
· Provide advanced technical assistance:
Develop and optimize laboratory methodologies, troubleshoot experimental procedures, records and validates experimental plan.
· Be responsible for accurately recording work performed including results and methodology. Calculate, compile, and analyzes data obtained from work performed.
· Train lab staff in specialized procedures, equipment and theoretical concepts behind unique tests.
· Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and presentations.
· Ensure that all laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with each procedure(s) by utilizing safety procedures and guidelines in handling, storage and disposal of bio-hazardous, infectious and toxic material.
· Bachelor’s degree or Masters degree in Biological Sciences.
· 2+ years of hands-on lab research experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 1+ year related experience with a Master’s degree.
· Experience in routine lab methods and computer skills
· Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
· Familiarity with routine molecular and cell biology lab methods and safety aspects.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $32.00 - $49.60 / hour
