What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a dedicated Operations Engineer and Staff Scientist with a curiosity about innovative science and engineering to develop concepts with additive manufacturing processes and materials. You will play a key role as part of multidisciplinary team of engineers and material scientists who are working to develop future technologies and manufacturing processes required for development of metal advanced manufacturing processes, prototypes and production ready components. You will have opportunities to contribute across a spectrum of basic research and applied technologies, working from concept, design and simulation through fabrication and test.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Set up, operate and maintain multiple metal additive manufacturing tools and ensure proper configuration and operation of these tools within a multi-disciplinary environment
- Work across a variety of mission spaces to understand requirements and collaborate to produce process optimization, prototypes
- Develop computational approaches to additive machine control and process monitoring
- Optimize material systems and process parameters for multi-scale 3D printing
- Work with a variety of stakeholders to develop viable strategies for optimizing process and design parameters and produce testable hardware
- Collaborate across fields with internal organizations as well as academic and industrial collaborators

Salary Range:
$109,300 - $217,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor's and master's in mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering, materials science, or related field
- Experience with mechanical design and process optimization in a metal additive manufacturing environment
- Experience leading the installation, maintenance, trouble shooting of complex capital equipment
- Experience in advanced manufacturing technologies
- Able to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
- A record of productivity and innovation, as evidenced by industry and/or government experience
- Ability to establish safe operation procedures and documentation for a variety of metal materials
- Experience with multiple forms of metal additive manufacturing including laser powder bed fusion, electron beam additive manufacturing, binder jet additive manufacturing and other modalities
- Experience with materials characterization (any of the following: dynamic mechanic analysis, vision-based inspection, microstructure analysis among others)
- Experience with chemical and materials laboratory practices
- Experience with materials characterization including optical and electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, spectroscopy and other inspection techniques
- Proven communication and interpersonal skills as needed to work successfully in a team environment
