General Information:

The Counseling Programs at James Madison University are seeking an exceptional Counselor Educator to join the faculty in the Department of Graduate Psychology and serve as a core faculty member in our low-residency Counseling & Supervision Doctoral Program. In the low-residency model, students participate in a mix of synchronous and asynchronous online meetings with core faculty members as well as in-person residencies, held twice a semester in Harrisonburg, VA. Our counseling programs are comprised of three CACREP‐accredited programs including Clinical Mental Health Counseling MA/EdS, School Counseling MEd/EdS, and Counseling & Supervision PhD (https://psyc.jmu.edu/counseling/index.html). The full‐time (10 month), tenure track position, with options for summer teaching, will start in August, 2025, and will be filled at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.



Duties and Responsibilities:

The doctoral faculty position involves the following responsibilities: teach four hybrid doctoral-level courses each academic year, chair dissertation committees (3-6 additional course credits), provide mentorship to doctoral students, and engage in scholarship and service to the department, including program leadership. This hire will support the doctoral program's move to 60 required credit hours per the 2024 CACREP Standards, as well as JMU’s move to R2 status as an institution. Potential teaching opportunities include Advanced Supervision, Advanced Counseling Techniques, and Internship Supervision. This position requires on-campus attendance for weekend residencies twice a semester and other on-campus duties as assigned.



Qualifications:

-Experience with counselor education, synchronous and asynchronous teaching best practices in doctoral education, leading student dissertations, as well as doctoral-level supervision and teaching.
-A doctoral degree in Counselor Education & Supervision from a CACREP‐accredited program.
-A strong identity as a counselor educator with an interest in teaching and mentoring students at the doctoral level.
-Demonstrated interest and/or experience in program leadership.
-Experience supporting school counselors is preferred, but not required.
-The ability to teach a variety of courses at the doctoral level is preferred, but not required.
-Licensure as a school counselor or mental health counselor is preferred, but not required.
