Molecular Clinical Variant Curator - Clinical Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory

This full-time position reports directly to the Director of the Clinical Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory (CMDL). The Clinical Variant Curator plays a crucial role in supporting both clinical and developmental operations of the CMDL. Responsibilities include accurately identifying and classifying genetic variants/mutations detected through standard molecular genetic testing. The curator will also assist clinical laboratory leadership in ongoing test development and optimization of clinical testing pipelines, contributing to the interpretation and classification of genetic variants. This is a Monday-Friday, full-time, days position.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Curate and classify genetic variants/mutations using databases, literature, and in-silico tools, ensuring accurate clinical reporting.
  • Collaborate with department leadership to validate and implement new methods and instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, providing guidance to staff as needed.
  • Participate in professional development and training to maintain high standards of laboratory care.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in updating CMDL mutation databases and incorporating new algorithms into clinical analysis pipelines.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Master’s Degree in Biological Sciences and familiarity with Germline databases, Sanger Sequencing and Next-generation sequencing (NGS) or Bachelor’s Degree and familiarity with Germline databases, Sanger Sequencing and Next-generation sequencing (NGS) and 2 years of sequencing data interpretation.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of computational biology as applied to genetics/genomics.
  • An understanding of bioinformatics analysis to identify variants within genomic data sets, and variant effect prediction algorithms.
  • Laboratory and/or clinical experience in cancer genetics.
  • The ability to critically read, understand, and interpret data from scientific publications. Cross-disciplinary and strong analytical skills as well as broad experience using computational methods, databases, software and hardware.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $45.22 - $72.36 / hour
