Job Details:MERC is recruiting for a Software Developer responsible for developing web-based applications or programs, modifying existing software, adding new capabilities, or upgrading interfaces using state-of-the-art development tools and techniques. The candidate may perform as a Technical Lead on smaller projects or work under the direction of a Technical Lead on larger projects. This is a full-time, on site position with a comprehensive benefit package.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• May work independently or assist the project Technical Lead or more senior developers/engineers by performing the following tasks:
• Develop, modify, and/or maintain web or client-server-based applications, machine learning and/or artificial intelligence-based solutions
• Establish software solutions by studying existing code and following best practices
• Assess software limitations and/or capabilities through the creation and performance of automated and/or manual product testing including, but not limited to, unit, integration, functional, and/or smoke testing
• Create software design documentation using industry best practices including flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, self-documenting code, inline comments, and others as appropriate
• Communicate up-to-date project status to internal customers and technical leads
• Collaborate in the design and implementation of new features and modifications
• Complies with all Executive Director approved MERC-wide policies and procedures.
• Adheres to approved MERC MSP quality management policies and principles, and promotes an attitude of commitment to continuous quality improvement.
• Ensures thorough familiarity and awareness of all MERC core capabilities and remains alert for any opportunities to promote MERC capabilities and interests to customers and potential customers.
• Submits suggestions for new business opportunities or report identified customer problems or opportunities to the Director of Acquisition Strategy through a Chief Engineer.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• US Citizenship is required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
• A Ph.D. degree in Information Technology or other science, technology, engineering, and math degree with a with a focus on software development from an accredited institution; or a Master’s degree in same and 1 year of directly related experience; or an undergraduate degree in same and 2 years of directly related experience.
• Certifications:
• CompTIA Security+ CE
• Beginner in using Python, Java, JavaScript, J-Query, C#, and Dot.NET frameworks including MVC, Web Forms and/or Dot.NET core
• Beginner in using secure coding practices
• Beginner in using database design principles and Structured Query Language (SQL)
• Beginner in using the agile framework and software development life-cycle
• Beginner in the development of testing strategies for components and/or applications
Final rank will be determined on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• This job operates indoors in a professional office environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, printers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Requires physical stamina sufficient to sit, stand, or walk for prolonged periods.
• Repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing.
• Visually or otherwise, be able to identify, observe, and assess documents, drawings, and models.
• Able to see and read PC screens, detect color-coding, read fine print, and/or normal type size print.
• Hearing sufficient to conduct in-person and telephone conversations.
• Speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distance, on the telephone, and addressing groups.
• Mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and make valid judgments and decisions.
