Job Description
IT@JH Networking, Telecom and Data Ctr is seeking a Network Manager who is responsible for the enterprise network that interconnects all sites with the enterprise Data Centers, strategic network points-of-presence, and enterprise cloud connectivity. The Network Manager is instrumental in determining strategic direction for networking for all Johns Hopkins institutions while managing the data center and enterprise networking team. This position is under direct supervision of the IT Operating Unit Director for Enterprise Networking.Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Directly manages the data center and enterprise networking team while providing subject matter expertise to all of networking at Johns Hopkins.
Responsible for interconnecting campuses with the enterprise backbone, managing data center connectivity, and managing shared enterprise connectivity to ISPs and various cloud providers. From a cloud connectivity perspective, evaluates and defines new network locations and cloud services to add georedundancy to existing services. These new network locations need to be strategic for the entire enterprise to add new services, capacity or redundancy to mission critical applications.
Meets with customers to determine the best solution that meets the needs of the business. In additional to internal customers, will also meet with vendors to vet, design and purchase solutions for the enterprise. The vendor relationships may encompass anything from traditional hardware vendors to cloud providers.
Leads entity/site integrations across the enterprise. The candidate will manage the necessary steps required for initial connectivity through the full integration of the new network with the enterprise.
Most of the work is self-generated to provide a more agile, stable and accessible network for customers. The position operates autonomously for how goals are implemented. The position collaborates frequently with other network managers and enterprise IT Directors.
Responsible for hiring of the data center/enterprise team.
Specific Devices, Software, Projects
Manages the network infrastructure for enterprise connectivity. While predominantly Cisco, ADVA, F5 and Gigamon hardware, there will be evaluations of other vendors. Any changes made on the enterprise network devices has a potential to affect the University, 6 hospitals, and tens of thousands of customers. Designs need to account for both academic and clinical needs/use cases.
Impletes an overall enterprise cloud connectivity strategy. As cloud connectivity becomes more expansive, this position needsto write requirements for connectivity products that will be consumed by the enterprise.
Scale/size of Area, Project and/or System Supported
Tens of thousands of customers rely on the enterprise network backbone to work. While most are employees, the position will also support connectivity for hospital guests and academic residents. Ultimately responsible for network traffic throughout the organization.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to determine strategic networking locations for the enterprise to offer more redundancy, greather throughput and novel services to technical customers.
Interact with cloud providers to determine the requirements for implementation in the enterprise. May result in working closely with the cloud product management team to deliver a custom tailored product.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree.
Eight years related experience.
CCIE certification is preferred.
Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula
