What You Will Achieve
The Discovery Myeloid & Tissue Remodeling Group in the Inflammation and Immunology Research Unit is seeking a motivated, innovative and enthusiastic researcher to join us in our mission to define myeloid cell functional phenotypes in homeostatic, inflammatory, and fibrotic conditions with the goal of delivering transformative medicines. This Senior Scientist will work in a matrixed structure within the department and support both in vitro and in/ex vivo studies that investigate mechanisms for the resolution of inflammation and fibrosis, and novel targets for portfolio entry. The ideal candidate will have a diverse biology and immunology background and a history of success in developing assays, implementing new technologies, and triaging problems in biological systems. The candidate will be a key contributor in delivering data and recommendations for decisions of proposed and active programs.This is an opportunity for the right candidate to join a highly collaborative team conducting innovative Discovery research in a super-charged industrial setting.
How You Will Achieve It
Plan and execute laboratory experiments to produce robust, decision-making data
Develop relevant in vitro assays to evaluate disease phenotypes in inflammatory and fibrotic diseases
Investigate novel pathways involved in wiring monocytes to homeostatic, inflammatory or fibrotic macrophages states
Lead evaluations and portfolio entry of new targets in inflammation and fibrosis for portfolio entry
Support in vitro, in/ex vivo multiparametric assays including high parameter flow cytometry, histology, mutliplex immunofluorescence, high content imaging, and biochemical assays
Run high-parameter tissue imaging to validate target expression and determine cell components and localization
Collaborate with other Discovery and Preclinical groups in I&I, as well as key individuals in relevant partner lines
Prepare and present experimental results to project teams, and publish and present externally
Maintain high quality experimental records within an electronic laboratory notebook
Qualifications
Must-Have
BA/BS plus 5 years of experience, MS plus 2-4 years of experience, PhD plus 0-2 years of industry or post-doctoral experience in biology or immunology with laboratory experience relevant to the position(Myeloid cell biology)
Must be scientifically self-motivated and capable of independently conceiving, conducting, and critically analyzing their own innovative research, with minimal supervision
Experience with human and murine monocyte culture and assay development
Expertise in core molecular biology skills (PCR, ELISA, WB/IP, plate-based Assays, DNA/RNA Isolation, scRNAseq library preparation)
Ability to conduct data analysis using Microsoft Excel, GraphPad Prism, FlowJo, or equivalent software
Experience with high-parameter flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry & immunofluorescence.
Ability to complete experiments and present results in individual and group settings
Ability to learn novel skills and flourish in a highly-matrixed organization, and to work on multidisciplinary teams
Ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve issues by using sound judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, and regulations
Proven verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work in a collaborative team environment
Nice-to-Have
Experience with in vitro gene editing approaches
Experience with R and scRNAseq analysis
Experience with iPSC culture a plus
Proficiency with personal computers including word processing, spreadsheets, Excel, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software is desirable
Expertise in myeloid/stroma inflammation and fibrosis highly preferred
Job location: On premise with relocation support available
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $88,300.00 to $147,100.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
