Job Description

Job Summary:
Internet Scout is a research group based in the Computer Sciences Department at UW-Madison, focused on developing new digital repository and online resource discovery and dissemination tools and technologies, primarily for the Higher Education and Research communities. Current Internet Scout projects under way include Advanced Technological Education (ATE) Central (http://atecentral.net) and Metavus (http://metavus.net). Internet Scout offers a flexible environment, smart co-workers, and the chance to make a significant impact on a national scale.

As a key member of the Internet Scout team, the Software Engineer will work with other team members to develop and maintain new open source software and build interfaces, technologies, and tools for various grant-funded projects. The position requires substantive software development experience, familiarity with user interface design principles, and excellent written communication skills.

An applicant may be hired into a Software Engineer/Developer I or Software Engineer/Developer II title dependent upon experience. Title will be determined upon hire.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
* Substantive experience developing with JavaScript, SQL, and either PHP or Python
* Excellent written communication skills
* Familiarity with user interface design principles
* Solid knowledge of Object Oriented Programming concepts and practices
* Experience developing in a Linux or BSD environment

Preferred Qualifications:
* Practical knowledge of and experience with software design patterns
* Substantive experience with jQuery and jQueryUI
* Experience developing with Bootstrap and SASS/SCSS
* Familiarity with using Photoshop or a similar tool for web design and development

Work Type:
Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:
Minimum $51,955 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The typical starting salary for this position is $52,000 - $93,000 depending on qualifications and experience. An applicant may be hired into a Software Engineer/Developer I or Software Engineer/Developer II title dependent upon experience.
