The Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy, Medical College of Georgia, at Augusta University is undergoing an expansion of its research program and is seeking tenure-track faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor levels. Cellular Biology and Anatomy is seeking candidates with an interest in diseases associated with aging. The area of research should show interest in diseases associated with aging and/or interest in diseases related to research in Bone, Vision, Renal, Neurogenerative diseases, and ideally should complement existing strengths.
Augusta University is the home of the only research-oriented, state supported medical school in Georgia and offers an outstanding interdisciplinary environment. The research infrastructure includes state-of-the-art core facilities for confocal and two-photon imaging, biotelemetry, proteomics, flow cytometry, electron microscopy/histology, derivation, and manipulation of murine embryonic stem cells. Candidates at the Assistant Professor level must demonstrate a strong potential for research including obtaining extramural funding. Candidates at the Associate Professor level must possess external funding at the NIH R01 level and demonstrate potential for its continuation. The successful candidate will receive a nationally competitive start-up package, be expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research program and participate in teaching. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, identifying at least three individuals as references, a statement of research objectives, and, if desired, a description of teaching interests/experience. Responsibilities
• Establish vigorous independent research programs that are extramurally funded to complement the research strengths and goals of the department and the university. Faculty hires part of the Transdisciplinary Research Initiative in Inflammaging and Brain Aging (TRIBA) will collaborate and participate in joint grant submissions and include other AU investigators.
• Teach in the School of Medicine and/or The Graduate School and mentor graduate and medical students, as well as provide teaching for the department's graduate program.
• Faculty hires part of the Transdisciplinary Research Initiative in Inflammaging and Brain Aging (TRIBA) are expected to collaborate with other TRIBA recruits and host educational events such as journal clubs, seminars, and other interactive meetings.
• Provide national, local, and institutional service.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D., MD, or Ph.D./MD from an accredited college or university and must be eligible for a faculty appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor Level.
Evidence of ability as an educator and scholarly activity.
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
• Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
• Evidence of ability as a teacher;
• Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
• Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
• Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
