College/Department Information

Researching Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Stroke, Hypertension, Diabetes... With the increasing frequency of obesity and diabetes, especially in Georgia, cardiovascular disease is reaching epidemic proportions. The Vascular Biology Center at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University knows the demand is high for new and better treatments. Our internationally recognized team of research experts have one goal - to make breakthroughs in the prevention and treatment of disease so that we all may live longer, healthier lives.

Job Summary

Maintain a clean and tidy lab environment (picking up and delivering research packages to making simple solutions and stocking the laboratory with essential items for experiments to be properly carried out). Assist in cell culture, tissue collection and following assays.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

Mouse tissue collection, vascular studies, small animal surgery.

Assistance in mouse breeding and genotyping.

Cell culture, experiments in primary human cells.

Daily tissue culture room maintenance including discard of old media, wiping down benches, checking power for all equipment and ensuring microscope lamp is not left on, inventory and stocking of cell culture room, fill liquid nitrogen dewars on a weekly basis and provide support for lab members with dry ice and liquid nitrogen in smaller dewars, as needed, point person for all equipment repairs or scheduled performance maintenance visits and coordinate with lab members, as needed; Contact person for hazardous waste pickups.

Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting or clinical trials research.
OR
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting or clinical trials research.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities



Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Energetic self-starter, goal-focused, and detail-oriented with strong organizational, multi-tasking, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality. Willingness and ability to work with research animals. Ability to work independently with only general supervision.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).

Salary Minimum: $17.88 hourly.

Pay Band: B5

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
