Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Medical Assistant for a busy, rapidly growing Dermatology office. We are looking for a motivated, reliable person who can go above and beyond with our patients. Responsibilities include patient care, assisting with procedures, medical documentation, and all aspects of medical back-office duties. Must be a team player with the ability to multi-task.



Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Assist patient to exam room.
Screen patient prior to doctor's exam and document in EPIC.
Prepare for patient procedures.
Effectively explain processes to patient.
Maintain and operate equipment accordingly to safety and quality control regulations.
Maintain inventory and supply ordering.
Help monitor clinic flow.
Stock exam rooms.
Autoclaving.


*This position will be cross trained to support our Dermatology Surgery and General Dermatology units. The MA will be hired with the expectation that the employee will complete the Derm Tech Program. The Department of Dermatology developed and implemented the Derm Tech Program to provide advanced training to certified medical assistants (CMA). The goal of this certification program is to promote a higher level of understanding of dermatology-specific diagnoses, procedures and skills, therefore, increasing the quality of patient care, productivity and efficiency in the clinic setting. The program was designed as a promotional track whereby candidates are hired as CMAs, promoted to assistant dermatology technician at the successful completion of online and classroom didactic, and promoted to certified dermatology technician after successful completion of physician-precepted clinical skills. The Derm Tech Program is currently only available to JHU employees.



Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or graduation equivalent.
Certification/Registration as a Medical Assistant (e.g. CMA, AAMA, RMA, AMT, NAHP) required. If not currently certified/registered, must become certified/ registered within 180 days (6 months) of date of hire. Exam fees will be paid by the department. If a retest is required, associated fees are paid by the employee.
Current CPR certification by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross required.
Must maintain MA and CPR certification/registration during duration of employment in this position.


Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a Medical Assistant, preferably in Dermatology.
Experience using EPIC.
