Summary

This position is with the Section of Gastroenterology  (Dr. Maya Balakrishnan) to counsel patients about their lifestyle as part of a research study testing the feasibility of a weight loss program designed for the needs of Hispanic patients with liver disease.  The person who fills this position would deliver health education as part of weight loss program, assists with education materials, and assists with participant recruitment, consenting, and data collection through surveys and interviews.

The standard work schedule is on site,  Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm, but hours will vary depending on the needs of the participants.  Health education delivery will be across two to three clinical sites. The ideal candidate will be bilingual in English/Spanish.

Job Duties

Health Education-75%

  • Teaches health education classes on nutrition, physical activity, and weight loss strategies.
  • Counsels patients on healthy eating and physical activity.
  • Edits, modifies, and co-develops education materials in both English and Spanish as needed.

Participant recruitment, consenting, and data collection - 25%

  • Recruits patient's families from target clinics.
  • Explains the study and assists families during the consenting process.
  • Collects research data and enters the data into the research databases.
  • Attends research meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Education, Public Health, Community Health, Behavioral Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.
