Job Description

Summary

The Pfaffinger lab research focus is understanding the regulation of ion channels and their role in native neurons. Our work is ultimately tied to our interest in developing a better understanding of how the nervous system functions and the roles that ion channels and ion channel auxiliary subunits play in normal and abnormal function of the nervous system.

Job Duties

  • Prepares and conducts research experiments including molecular cloning and expression studies.
  • Manages and work with engineered mouse colony for targeted gene expression experiments.
  • Collects, compiles, analyzes and interprets the results of genetic manipulations.
  • Maintains the functionality of the laboratory including inventory control and resource management and maintaining careful research notes.
  • Ensures laboratory compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigator.
  • Reviews literature and synthesize pertinent information to support research objectives.
  • Assists in maintaining the common resources for the four labs that work together on the 6th floor of Smith Res. building.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates should have excellent organizational and communication skills, the ability to work independently, collaboratively, and cooperatively without constant supervision, and a passion for neuroscience research.
  • Strong candidates for this position are expected to have the ability to learn new techniques and work carefully with sensitive laboratory equipment.
