Job Description

Summary

The Cuddapah Lab at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital is seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager to oversee daily laboratory operations along with the Principal Investigator. The laboratory is interested in understanding how neurological symptoms are modulated by sleep and circadian rhythms. We are predominantly using Drosophila as a model system but are also interested in cell and mouse models. We seek to leverage diverse perspectives to identify novel mechanisms that will eventually benefit children with neurological disorders.

Job Duties

  • Confers closely with Principal Investigator (PI) to facilitate the research operations of the laboratory.
  • Serves as a communicator between the Principal Investigator and other laboratory staff.
  • Ensures the laboratory is in compliance with all institutional and regulatory standards.
  • Meets with PI periodically to evaluate new equipment and methods.
  • Serves as biosafety officer for the laboratory.
  • Supervises laboratory personnel in a variety of laboratory duties.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
  • Consults with Principal Investigator to determine equipment purchase priorities based on budget, condition of existing equipment, and scheduled laboratory activities.
  • Demonstrates use and care of equipment to research personnel in the laboratory.
  • Arranges service calls for equipment and orders laboratory supplies.
  • Performs experiments that promote the research mission of the laboratory in communication with PI.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Five years of relevant experience, with prior supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Drosophila is highly desired.
  • Experience with molecular biology, electrophysiology, in vivo imaging, optogenetics, coding, and/or omics approaches is desirable.
