Job Description Summary
The University of South Alabama’s department of Biological Resources is seeking to hire a Laboratory Animal Technician Supervisor I. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.

Essential Functions
These are the job duties required of the position.
Essential Functions
Provides daily staff supervision of animal husbandry personnel to include assigning duties, checking work, approving time off, signing time sheets, and preparing performance evaluations.
Assists with planning work schedules, maintaining supply inventories, recommending purchases, recommending operating procedures, and interviewing applicants.
Provides advanced animal husbandry to include monitoring animal room environment for temperature, humidity, air exchange rates, and lighting variations.
Maintains barrier/infectious containment animal housing facilities.
Establishes and maintains animal breeding colonies and records..
Feeds and waters animals daily.
Changes and washes soiled cages.
Observes animals for irregularities in dietary, stool, or urine characteristics and signs of illness or injury.
Administers prescribed medications and treatments.
Collects biological specimens for diagnostic laboratory purposes.
Provides aseptic surgical support and performs minor surgical and necropsy procedures.
Assists with routine clinical laboratory procedures such as hematology, parasitology, bacteriology, serology, and blood chemistry analysis.
Provides training and instructions to animal husbandry personnel.
Cleans and repairs feed troughs, pens, cages, and other animal care facilities.
Prepares and maintains routine records such as animal count, identification, weight, medication, and food consumption.
Unloads and stores feeds and bedding materials.
Transports animals, materials, and pathological wastes between sites.
Receives after-hours calls on rotation/shared basis.
Regular and prompt attendance.
Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
Related duties as required.
