IAEA Programs at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a motivated, administrative professional who is seeking to make meaningful contributions across the globe.

The individual will join a team that serves as the U.S. Support Program to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). What is the IAEA? The IAEA (HQ in Vienna, Austria with laboratories in Seibersdorf, Austria and Monaco) is the world’s central intergovernmental forum for scientific and technical cooperation in the nuclear field. It works for the safe, secure and peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology.

Reporting to the IAEA Programs Group Leader, the individual will maintain a central clearinghouse of relevant IAEA non-safeguards activities for the program entitled IAEA Nominations and, as assigned, support its other programs (IAEA Fellowship, IAEA Training, IAEA Careers, IAEA Nuclear Energy Activities).

Primary Activities:

  • Understand the work of IAEA Programs and our role to support the IAEA non-safeguards activities with the U.S. Department of State contract.

  • Input and maintain complete and accurate information in database.

  • Facilitate time-sensitive U.S. governmental approvals and nominations, communicating with U.S. experts across many disciplines and organizations.

  • Develop the skills to analyze the information in the database, preparing a variety of communication materials such as talking points and reports.

  • Keep communication materials, including the program manual, up to date.

  • Coordinate with assigned team members on certain IAEA events, such as U.S. hosted events and nuclear energy related events.

  • Produce bi-weekly data report for our sponsor at U.S. Department of State.

Position Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • PA1 Level: Bachelors and 0+ years’ experience, or equivalent

  • Experienced with personal computers and applications such as Word, Excel, and Teams.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work using tact, diplomacy, discretion, and proven ability to maintain confidentiality. 

  • Good time management and organization skills.

  • Strong teaming and collaboration skills.

  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail.

  • Flexible and adaptable in working with others and taking on new tasks.

  • To perform the essential functions of this position, successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract

  • Ability to make our laboratory a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment where all can thrive.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Some knowledge of DOE, DOS, Argonne and Division general policies, procedures, regulation and requirements is preferred.

  • Some knowledge of the International Atomic Energy Agency and IAEA Programs at Argonne is preferred.

  • A background in international relations is preferred.
