Role Summary

Primary purpose of Lab Instrument Services (LIS) Lead role is to oversee and implement the LIS program for Pfizer Research & Development (PRD) customers at the Andover, MA site.  This includes the planning/scheduling of preventative and corrective maintenance of PRD lab instrumentation and management of those instruments through their life cycle.  This is accomplished while maintaining a state of compliance and audit readiness at all times. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provides direct LIS planning/scheduling of GxP and non-GxP instrumentation while ensuring LIS planner/schedulers and asset managers are working efficiently and effectively.

  • Ensures LIS compliance with GWE quality systems (SOPs, training, records management, vendor management and assessment, incident reporting, OOT/OOF, CAPA, audits, etc.) for GMP/GLP labs.

  • Authors new SOPs as required.  Performs periodic reviews of SOPs as required.

  • Oversees contingent staff of planner/schedulers (3), engineers (4), asset managers (2), and LIS specialists (1).

  • Manages LIS-related budget activities (capital & expense) and forecast budgets, training, capital equipment, and manpower needs.

  • Establishes relationships with PRD customers to drive down costs by utilizing equipment histories and failure rates

  • Ensures equipment service contracts are assessed and renewed with approval from PRD customers.

  • Meets with major LIS vendors on a periodic basis to discuss and evaluate service levels and KPIs. Drive enhancements to established vendor programs to improve efficiencies.

  • Administers the LIS CMMS system (EAMS)

  • Hosts weekly LIS team meetings and track/manage work order backlog.

  • Ensures that the equipment inventories (on site and at the off-site warehouse) are kept up to date by asset managers

  • Interfaces with Procurement to address performance issues with suppliers

  • Serves on global LIS network/forums

  • LIS Liaison for capital project lab moves

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or technical discipline preferred.

  • A strong background in GxP compliance, quality systems management, and audit readiness. 

  • A detailed understanding of effective scheduling and workflow process in a scientific instrumentation maintenance environment.

  • Minimum of five years experience working in an analytical scientific instrumentation service environment.

  • Familiarity with laboratory analytical instrumentation: HPLC, GC, MS, NMR, Dissolution Systems, Spectrophotometers, Protein Analyzers, balances, incubators, centrifuges, etc.

  • Familiarity with automation and robotic equipment

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $93,500.00 to $155,900.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
