What You Will Achieve

As the Bothell Campus EHS Director you are accountable for building and maintaining progressive programs that assure compliance with applicable jurisdictional EHS regulations and company EHS policies and procedures.  The role is pivotal in shaping the long-term campus strategy collaborating with Research & Development, Manufacturing and functional leaders to instill and sustain a culture of EHS excellence.

You will lead and inspire a team of direct reports and matrixed collaborators in integrating EHS risk management and environmental impact reduction practices throughout the campus R&D,  manufacturing and supply lifecycle to protect colleagues and the environment enabling EHS program agility to address the needs of scientific innovation.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Sets the strategic direction of the campus EHS program, through establishment of long-term objectives and integration with campus over-arching business priorities.
  • Collaborates with campus leaders to drive safety and environmental impact reduction priorities, equipping teams with EHS performance status; and data trends to drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of the site legal register, EHS risk register and regulatory / commitment tracking processes; escalating through established governance processes should action be required to maintain compliance and risk management effectiveness.
  • Leads EHS permit applications, registrations, certifications and renewals driving a reasonable enquiry process to assure the accuracy and completeness of all routine and special regulatory and internal reports / submissions. 
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for EHS external / regulatory bodies.
  • Ensures implementation, maintenance and effectiveness of campus EHS management systems that meet contemporary external and Pfizer internal EHS standards and enhance and continuously improve the campus EHS program.
  • Establishes and maintains campus inspection / audit systems that evaluate the effectiveness of the EHS management system on an ongoing basis; utilizing signals and trends to drive continuous improvement actions.
  • Integrates EHS risk assessment within business operations thereby assuring all operations are conducted in a safe manner and in full compliance with all applicable regulating bodies and Global EHS standards.
  • Ensures timely effective notification of EHS events / incidents and drives the EHS incident investigation process ensuring implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Leads the campus EHS training strategy ensuring effective content aligned with campus EHS risk profile, and timely delivery.
  • Manages, and executes the campus EHS budget; ensuring resource adequacy.
  • Ensures effective delivery of in-sourced and outsourced EHS services for the campus, including selection and management of properly licensed waste management vendors.
  • Collaborates with EHS peers within the Pfizer network to embrace good practices and drive adoption.
  • Grows and develops EHS talent; and advances long term talent strategies.
  • Ensures preparedness for potential threats and leads campus Emergency / Crisis Management Team when events arise.
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • Applicant must have an Undergraduate Degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Risk Mgt or related field with a minimum 10 years of experience in a relevant industry e.g., pharma, biotech, biomedical with a sustained track record in improving EHS performance.
  • Thorough knowledge of jurisdictional EHS regulations, and their applicability to campus EHS management.            
  • EHS technical and leadership experiences and capabilities, aligned with site risk profile to drive business outcomes with stakeholders.
  • Organized and detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to handle competing priorities and perform under pressure, bias for action.
  • Possesses a collaborative spirit, effective influencing skills, strong project management skills, including change leadership.

Nice-to-Have

  • Master’s degree in Environment, Safety or Engineering field preferred.
  • Certified Environmental/Occ Hygiene/Safety professional; with continuous professional development  Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization and a proven track record in change management.
  • This is a people manager role.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Due to the nature of work assignments, the role holder must be able to perform detailed work with limited oversight on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraints; while advancing long term priorities. 
  • Overall physical fitness to conduct a range of functions including training, on location risk assessment, inspections and audits.  This will require the ability to carry necessary work materials e.g. laptop etc, to stoop; to reach; to sit / stand / walk for extended periods of time; ability to climb stairs.
  • Daily interactions with colleagues through face to face or virtual meetings enabled using technology such as TEAMs  requiring ability to effectively exchange ideas and information with colleagues using these systems.
  • Ability to understand, evaluate, interpret and explain multiple complex inputs and provide clear direction.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work outside standard working hours (early mornings / evenings) to engage and interact with peer EHS leaders across a geographically diverse network.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $161,600.00 to $269,400.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
