What You Will Achieve

The Hematology group in the Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU) is seeking a highly motivated BA/BS scientist with in vivo pharmacology experience to support preclinical drug discovery efforts for Hematology programs. You will work closely with your supervisor and IMRU scientists to conduct in vitro, in vivo and ex vivo experiments building support for exploratory and portfolio hematology programs. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, able to design and execute in vivo experiments efficiently, as well as analyze, interpret, and effectively communicate results. Your significant experience of applying knowledge of principles, concepts, and practices of the discipline will make you a critical member of the team. You are proactive in contributing to all team discussions and creating an environment of collaboration. How You Will Achieve It

  • Contribute to achievement of immediate work group goals and collaborate with other team members

  • Design and execute in vitro, in vivo and ex vivo experiments to advance Hematology projects

  • Learn new techniques quickly and execute experiments efficiently

  • Independently follow protocols accurately, analyze data, and work with supervisor on data interpretation

  • Present experimental designs and results at internal team meetings

  • Maintain compliance with laboratory safety, IACUC procedures and electronic notebook standards

  • Identify and report any experimental problems, proactively troubleshoot causative factors, and implement necessary corrections following discussion with supervisor.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) in Biology, Pharmacology or related field with 3+ years of in vivo experience

  • Experience in rodent handling, dosing, blood and tissue collection and necropsy

  • Excellent communication, organizational and planning skills

  • Self-motivated and creative with the ability to work independently

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and troubleshoot issues when they arise, using literature to formulate potential new approaches

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficiency with personal computers, including word processing, Excel, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software

Nice-to-Have

  • Master's degree with experience in rodent handling, dosing, blood and tissue collection and necropsy

  • Knowledge of hematopoiesis and red cell biology

  • Experience with pre-clinical in vivo models used to study disorders of hematopoiesis and erythropoiesis

  • Bone marrow processing and flow cytometry experience

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $64,600.00 to $107,600.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 7.5% of the base salary.
