Job Description

Summary

A Research Assistant I position is available at the Center for Advanced Innate Cell Therapy within the Texas Children’s Cancer Center. This position will be part of an interdisciplinary team of laboratory and clinical investigators developing novel forms of cancer immunotherapy. Duties include blood and tissue sample processing, cell culture, molecular cloning, PCR, gene transduction, flow cytometry, in vitro functional assays of immune effector cells, and measuring antitumor activity in mice. We offer outstanding state-of-the-art, recently expanded laboratory facilities and a highly interactive work environment. Candidates must have at least a Bachelor's degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or Biochemistry and a prior hands-on experience with cell culture, DNA/RNA processing, molecular cloning, gene transduction, flow cytometry, and handling mice.

Job Duties

  • Processes peripheral blood, isolates mononuclear cells and specific cell subsets.
  • Performs of numeric expansion of lymphocytes in culture.
  • Performs retroviral transduction of cultured cells.
  • Performs immunoflourescent staining and runs and runs flow cytometry analysis.
  • Analyses flow cytometry data using FlowJo software.
  • Perform T or NKT cell culture and measure their antitumor activity.
  • Measure cytokine production using ELISA or Luminex assays.
  • Isolate RNA and DNA from samples and process samples for single cell RNA sequencing.
  • Documents results of experiments and prepare reports.
  • Performs molecular cloning and PCR.
  • Performs cell therapy experiments in mice.
  • Keep laboratory records.
  • Generates reports summarizing experimental results.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field. Bachelor's degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry.
