The Australian e-Health Research Centre (AEHRC) is CSIRO’s national digital health research program, enabling the digital transformation of healthcare to improve services and clinical treatment for Australians and beyond.
We are actively seeking Senior Software Engineer – Smart on FHIR to join the FHIR Accelerator team in the Australian e-Health Research Centre (AEHRC), working closely with the AEHRC team, along with other collaborators and stakeholders in the creation, development, management and support of open data exchange standards and capabilities to meet the current and future needs for Australia’s health system.
This role’s primary focus is driving standards implementation support for an AU Core FHIR standard and associated materials throughout a community-led process and will support other HL7 AU standards, data standards, clinical terminology, and project tasks as required
This is a unique opportunity which comes with a high degree of flexibility in working arrangements from home and office set-up and has the option to remain in any of the four major cities of your choice.
Your duties will include:
- Collaborate with clients and CSIRO researchers and software engineers to lead projects in developing FHIR software and solutions to deliver high-impact solutions and analysis of clinical and other health data.
- Build applications that use the FHIR standard to interact with healthcare data.
- Develop and maintain high quality software in accordance with industry best practice and organisational guidelines.
- Contribute to the management and administration of operational business systems, web sites and associated infrastructure.
- Communicate project outcomes through support documentation, demonstrations and presentations.
- Help build CSIRO’s research and engineering reputation for integrated and multi-disciplinary science related to health data semantics.
Location:Brisbane QLD (preferred) else open to Sydney NSW, Canberra ACT, Melbourne VIC
Salary: *AU$110k- AU$148k plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: Full-time, specified term until 30 June 2025

*Applications are invited across two capability levels (CSOF5 or CSOF6) and the successful candidate will be appointed at the level that is commensurate with their skills and experience.
To be considered you will need:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as Computer Science or equivalent field work experience in the area health data engineering.
- Experience designing software interfaces and APIs.
- Experience working on mobile automation, app development, or iOS development.
- Experience with front end technologies e.g. React, Vue.js, Knockout, or Angular and knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Swift, JavaScript, or Shell.
- Experience developing and managing software in a cloud environment, such as AWS, GCP, Azure or OpenStack.
- Experience with configuration management or infrastructure as code tools, such as Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation, Puppet or Chef.
