What You Will Achieve
The Hematology group in the Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU) is seeking a highly talented and motivated scientist to drive exploration of new pathways to identify and develop new therapies for chronic anemias and related blood disorders. The candidate will be involved in drug discovery research projects from early target identification to drug development and will thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment requiring excellent oral and written communication skills.
The successful candidate must demonstrate:
- Advanced knowledge of the principles, concepts, and practices in red blood cell biology and hematopoiesis.
- Ability to work collaboratively with subject matter experts to integrate data from multiple sources.
- Innovation and self-motivation, capable of working independently as well as in the team setting.
How You Will Achieve It
- Act as Biology lead for Hematology programs, developing and executing Biology strategy. Participate in team meetings by presenting experimental plans and results
- Develop proposals for potential new targets to treat key unmet medical needs based on a combination of literature and internal/external data sets
- Design and execute experiments and create innovative processes to characterize impacts to red blood cell health in relevant in vitro and in vivo models
- Collaborate with scientists across the Research Unit to advance new targets for portfolio programs
- Participate in team meetings by presenting experimental plans and results
- Contribute to collaborations with leading academic labs to enable internal research programs
- Supervise 2+ lab-based colleagues
- Work closely with the Hematology lab head and lab operations to set up the lab and identify key equipment and instruments necessary for hematology research programs
- Strive to publish scientific and methodological results in high quality journals
- Collaborate with key internal and external hematology scientists to drive improved understanding of disease pathophysiology at the level of molecular pathways
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in biology or related scientific field with 5+ years of relevant hematology experience or Bachelor’s with 12+ years of relevant hematology experience in a biopharma/biotech setting, using innovative in vitro and in vivo disease model systems to solve biological problems
- Advanced knowledge of hematopoiesis and red blood cell biology
- Recognized as a technical expert of research methods and preclinical models used to study disorders of hematopoiesis and erythropoiesis
- Extensive experience with primary cell culture and flow cytometry
- Experience as a Biology lead on Hematology projects
- Demonstrated ability to train, manage and support 1-2 lab scientists
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in the use of Word processing, Excel, PowerPoint and relevant scientific software
Work Location Assignment:On Premise
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $99,900.00 to $166,500.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 15.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
