Summary
The Lagor laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to study the physiological regulation of cholesterol synthesis in the intestine. The project has two main goals- to determine how cholesterol synthesis controls intestinal stem cell proliferation, and to determine how newly synthesize cholesterol impacts cholesterol excretion. The ideal candidate will have a strong molecular biology and animal physiology skill set. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who is interested in pursuing an exciting research career in academic science.
Job Duties
- Reviewsthe scientific literature related to cholesterol biosynthesis in the intestine to gain a deep understanding of the research project.
- Designs experiments in consultation with PI to address important gaps in the literature.
- Performsexperiments, analyzes data, and interprets findings. Results will be presented to the research team at weekly lab meetings.
- Drafts manuscripts for publication on research findings.
- Participates in other scientific projects in the laboratory as needed.
- Assists in keeping the lab clean and organized, preparesfor regulatory inspections, and helpsothers with experiments as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in molecular biology, physiology, cell biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline.
- Candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a larger research team.
- Must have strong organizational, record keeping, and time management skills.
- Ideal candidate should have some previous research experience with mouse models.
- Knowledge of lipid metabolism and/or intestinal stem cell biology is preferred, but not required.
