As a Senior or Intermediate SAS Data Analyst, you will be working in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with top experts in the field of health services research. You will work on exciting research projects that will help shape the future of healthcare. Your skills and expertise in statistical analysis will be instrumental in these groundbreaking projects. The candidate will be a member of Dr. Elham Mahmoudi's (PI) research team/lab at the Department of Family Medicine and will directly report to her.

The most important skills for this position are:

Strong statistical knowledge using Statistical Analysis System (SAS) or R to implement data management of large longitudinal claims datasets. Candidates should also have an aptitude for statistical methods.

Responsibilities*
This position involves a range of tasks related to data management and quantitative analysis of large claims data obtained from payers such as Medicare and Medicaid administrative insurance claims. Specifically, the position involves providing independent and collaborative statistical support, including:

Working with administrative claims datasets using medical codes, such as International Classification of Diseases, 9th and 10th Revision (ICD9 and ICD10) as well as Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) to identify the appropriate cohort, healthcare encounters, and other variables of interest.
Developing and refining research strategies.
Identifying the cohort of interest based on the research strategy.
Performing a wide range of statistical analyses (e.g., descriptive analysis, hierarchical linear models, survival analysis, propensity score matching, and causal inference methodologies).
Writing, testing, and implementing programs using SAS or R to clean, manage, merge, and analyze large administrative claims datasets.
Summarizing and presenting results in written, tabular, and visual formats for policy briefs, manuscripts, and presentations.
Required Qualifications*
Senior Level
Bachelor's or Master's degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, biostatistics, computer science, information, or related fields.
5-7 years of systems analysis/programming in a business environment
Minimum 3 years of SAS or R programming.
Extensive experience in SAS functionality including data steps, macros, code optimization, and proc SQL.
Understanding of analytics and data manipulation
Experience with healthcare codes like ICD9, ICD10, CPT, HCPCS, DRG, etc.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and take initiative while keeping supervisors and project leads informed.
Experience with complex data structures and linkages between different data sources.
Solid foundation in applied statistics.
Ability to be consistently detail-oriented.
Passion for working with large quantities of insurance claims data to extract meaningful insight from them.
Intermediate Level:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience.
3 to 5 years systems analysis/programming activities in a business environment.
Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities.
Primary activities and decision making authority are predominantly performed independently affecting business operations to a substantial degree.
Employees are not involved in the operation, repair, or maintenance of computer hardware, networks, or equipment.
