Job Summary
AMSTI (Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative) at Auburn University is looking to hire a Math Specialist for grades 6-12 to serve the State of Alabama. AMSTI is the Alabama Department of Education’s initiative to improve math and science teaching statewide. It’s mission is to support Alabama educators and students in learning STEM through doing STEM. AMSTI-AU is a project designed to provide K-12 teachers in the East Alabama In-Service Region with professional development and materials so that they can teach mathematics and science through evidence-based methods.

Essential Functions
Essential Functions include but are not limited to:
Facilitate and/or participate in professional learning for teacher and/or administrators based on assignments and/or needs, including online options.
Assist AMSTI-ALSDE in developing and maintaining common professional learning opportunities and supporting resources for AMSTI and/or ALSDE, including online options.
Provide ongoing professional learning to AMSTI lead teachers, certified AMSTI facilitators, and or instructional coaches.
Assist IHE’s with planning and conducting pre-service and continuing education/outreach activities.
Participate in AMSTI professional learning activities and staff meetings conducted by the ALSDE and Site Director.
Provide frequent, ongoing support and coaching to teachers, AMSTI lead teachers, certified AMSTI facilitators, coaches, and/or administrators based on assignments and.or LEA needs.
Assist AMSTI teachers in effectively using common planning time and Professional Learning Communities to improve instruction.
Assist in recruiting new AMSTI teachers and/or facilitators.
Research the effects of current math, science, and /or technology practices in AMSTI classrooms, as requested by AMSTI-ALSDE.
Coordinate work through the AMSTI Site Director, collaborate with other specialists, and communicate with all stakeholders.
Achieve and maintain proficiency in all standards, pedagogical content knowledge, and AMSTI lessons and practices through AMSTI-ALSDE and approved outside professional learning opportunities based on requirements.
Work with materials managers to make site-level decisions based on teacher needs/requests.
Provide feedback to AMSTI-ALSDE regarding customization of kits and resources to make them teacher/classroom friendly.
Maintain records and complete paperwork in a timely manner.
Participate in the development, maintenance, and promotion of AMSTI resources according to the resource development and PR guidelines.


Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Math Education, Education, Mathematics, or a Related Field is required.

Level I – zero years of experience are required
Level II – requires two years of experience in designing, implementing, delivering and managing educational programs/services.
Level III - requires four years of experience in designing, implementing, delivering and managing educational programs/services

Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement at a rate of one year relevant education per year of required experience.
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications
Minimum Skills and Abilities
Excellent written and interpersonal communications. A commitment to building a diverse and inclusive community. A strong desire to education and facility professional development for math teachers in the state.

Minimum License and Certifications
Candidate must have a valid Alabama teaching certificate.
Desired Qualifications
Desired Qualifications
Master’s degree in Math Education, Education, Mathematics or related field. Experience in delivering professional development, and experience with AMSTI materials and pedagogy. Teaching in 6-12 mathematics.
