Unit Mission Statement
Information Technology is responsible for providing, promoting, and servicing a modern technology infrastructure for the William & Mary. Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of IT Infrastructure, this position coordinates and supports the day-to-day
operation of the university’s network.
Core responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Provide field-engineering support, including equipment installation, fault isolation, and cable plant management.
Investigate and resolve customer issues, particularly around VoIP and wireless connectivity.
Coordination of work by outside contractors, including project design and verification.
Assist in deploying technology infrastructure in new and renovated buildings.
Work alongside a team of network professionals in accomplishing these tasks.
This position is only open to current William & Mary employees.
Conditions of Employment
This position is subject to additional hours beyond the typical work day/week including weekends and holidays.
May require occasional overnight travel.
This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Information Security:
This position requires administrative access to the university’s information systems and/or sensitive College data. The incumbent is expected to be aware of and adhere to the Information Security policies of the university as well as all applicable federal, state, and local laws. Additionally, the position incumbent is expected to follow information security best practices applicable to their job area and to pursue information security training and awareness opportunities when possible.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of experience and training.
Working knowledge of networking technologies and protocols, specifically Ethernet, TCP/IP, and wireless 802.11 technologies; and an understanding of how they work together in an enterprise network.
Strong understanding of low-voltage cabling standards.
Demonstrated proficiency in equipment installation and basic configuration, cable management, and project oversight.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrated ability to stay current with industry technical and organizational trends, products, services, and best practices.
Work with colleagues to respond to Miss Utility requests in a timely manner
Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with a strong service orientation, and ability to deliver outstanding customer service, effectively interface with technical and non-technical staff at all organizational levels, vendor support and sales resources, as well as work collaboratively with in a team environment
Independent, self-starter with the ability to exercise sound judgment while managing multiple work assignments concurrently.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in information architecture, telecommunications, or other related field is desirable.
Relevant telecom/network certifications, such as those from BICSI or CWNP.
Juniper/Cisco network certifications, such as JNCIA or CCNA.
