What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are actively searching for a driven R&D Cybersecurity professional to take the lead on a team dedicated to developing High Consequence Software Systems. This team plays a critical role in enhancing U.S. national security missions. In this position, your primary focus will be ensuring the security of integrated digital and information systems, including software, hardware, interfaces, data, and networks.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders and mission-critical partners to effectively address intricate challenges related to multi-system integration
  • Collaborate with other technical experts, exchange knowledge, and contribute to the advancement of cybersecurity practices within our organization
  • Provide cybersecurity support to developers during the system development life cycle
  • Define the cybersecurity objectives and system-level performance requirements for high consequence national security systems
  • Consult on the implementation of cybersecurity methodologies and architectures and its impact on the current and future networks
  • Guide the transformation of customer needs into an operational capability by defining requirements, designing solutions, conducting tests, estimating costs, creating schedules, developing project plans, and formulating operational Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs)
  • Coordinate between Information Technology team staff and government customers to plan and resolve cybersecurity data calls

Salary Range:

$112,400 - $223,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, or other relevant discipline plus 5 years’ experience; or Master’s degree in relevant discipline plus 1 year experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
  • Experience with High Security Operations
  • Experience in systems engineering of software and IT architectures
  • Experience with interface requirements between Other Government Agencies (OGAs)
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Active DOE Q/SCI security clearance or equivalent DOD Top Secret/SCI security clearance

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite in Washington, D.C. 100% of the time.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Deep understanding of Co-use agreements and MOU’s between Special Programs organizations and partnering OGAs
  • Proven ability to develop and foster strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders
  • Proven ability to work the balance of security requirements with operational needs
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex technical landscapes and effectively communicate with stakeholders
  • Knowledge in creating and executing test plans for software and architecture testing
  • Experience in software assurance from development to release
  • Experience working with U.S. Government organizations - intelligence organizations, DOE, DoD
  • Strong leadership, partnership, and coaching/mentoring skills
  • Strong communication skills and experience providing complex information to all levels of project partners
  • Demonstrated understanding of current 8770 portfolio and cybersecurity infrastructure

About Our Team:

The Special Programs Department I (8771) is responsible for developing high-impact and high-consequence national security projects supporting a broad range of US government sponsors. Projects revolve around CONOPS creation, traditional Systems Engineering and development of custom software and IT architectures. While IT architectures and software development are core capabilities, projects span multiple engineering disciplines and have durations ranging from days to years. Special Programs’ success comes from the team’s ability to create innovative, end-to-end capabilities supporting the most demanding missions. The team works closely with our sponsors to understand their mission and develop solutions based on the sponsors’ specific needs. Special Program’s unique infrastructure, operational mindset along with deep domain and technical experience creates distinct and exceptional capabilities for our sponsors and an exciting and challenging work environment.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Position requires Department of Energy (DOE) Q and SCI security clearances to start, or equivalent active security clearances with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
