Job Description

WHY PATIENTS NEED YOU

Pfizer’s purpose is to deliver breakthroughs that change patients’ lives. Research and Development is at the heart of fulfilling Pfizer’s purpose where we translate science and technologies into the therapies and vaccines that matter most. Whether you are in discovery, ensuring drug safety and efficacy or supporting clinical trials, you will be a key contributor to our mission of bringing best in class medicines to patients around the world.

WHAT YOU WILL ACHIEVE

The Pfizer Oncology Research Unit (ORU) is working to change the trajectory of cancer by translating breakthrough discoveries in cancer research into the best medicines imaginable for patients.

The Oncogene & Cancer Vulnerabilities (O&CV) group, within Pfizer’s Cancer Cell Biology division, is focused on applying the latest scientific knowledge and innovative approaches to discover truly transformational therapies for patients. O&CV supports small molecule cancer drug discovery and development all the way from target discovery and validation through to clinic entry as biology leaders.

The applicant will be an integral part of our collective efforts to discover and target oncogenic drivers as well as tumor evolution networks to overcome adaptive and acquired resistance mechanisms to small molecule therapies. The applicant will work in a lab-based setting and carry-out molecular and cellular based assays, including functional genomic studies and data analysis; employ critical thinking to design and interpret experiments and communicate research findings to mentors and the wider O&CV team. As the applicant integrates data from across different divisions they will gain exposure to the broad Pfizer organization, learn from collaborations with cross-functional teams and be part of a culture that embraces scientific excellence and personal development.

HOW YOU WILL ACHIEVE IT

  • Lead from the bench - Design, execute and analyze experiments to address the basic and translational biology of novel drug targets, their molecular pathways, and their connection to human disease.
  • Design, execute and analyze experiments to address the adaptive and acquired resistance nodes and networks of small molecules targeting oncogenic signaling pathways to inform mitigation strategies for these disease states.
  • Strong attention to detail in experimental design, execution, data integration and interpretation.
  • Actively lead in scientific discussions and have deep knowledge of publications on relevant research themes.
  • Effectively communicate and present research findings to the OC&V and project teams.
  • Take initiative to collaborate with colleagues within and across departments to drive projects forward.
  • Contribute to a culture that values teamwork, collegiality, accountability, and continued learning and growth.

  • Track record of independently lead research evidenced by oral and poster presentations at internationally recognized conference series.
  • Track record of collaborative research evidenced by further co-author publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
  • Research experience in areas of Cancer Cell Biology, such as Oncogenic Cell Signaling, Tumor Plasticity and Heterogeneity or Adaptive networks and Acquired resistance to small molecule inhibitors, molecular glues.
  • Strong proficiency with foundational Cell and Molecular Biology techniques (eg: Construct Design, Lentiviral Generation, Stable Cell line Generation, 2D-adhered and 3D-Spheroid Proliferation assays, Western blots, QPCR etc).
