Job Description

Summary

The position will support limmunotherapy research with the goal of developing novel T cell therapies for cancer with a focus on overcoming the challenges associated with T-cell therapies for cancer. In particular we aim to generate tumor-specific T-cells that are more potent in migrating to and functioning in the immunosuppressive tumor environment without compromising safety. The position wil be translational, with the ultimate goal of transition to the clinic for a Phase I/II clinical trial.

The position will be integrated within the Center for Cell and Gene Therapy which is a highly collaborative translational research center affiliated with Texas Children’s Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine and Houston Methodist Hospital.

Job Duties

  • Provides mentorship to junior members of the lab.
  • Presents work at lab meetings and writes grants to support new projects.
  • Designs and conducts experiments to test the efficacy of gene modifications to improve tumor targeted T-cells.
  • Modifies bacteria to promote tumor-specific T-cell functions at the tumor site.
  • Plans, conducts and analyzes experiments in the translational laboratory to develop novel cell therapy products.
    • Relevant techniques include: cell culture, transduction, transfection, ELISpot, ELISA, RNAseq, flow cytometry, miniprep/maxiprep, cloning procedures.
  • Documents results of experiments in electronic lab notebooks.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • A strong track record of reporting previous work via publication and presentation
  • A working knowledge of basic software (word, excel, powerpoint)
  • A strong motivation to understand T- cell immunobiology and make contributions to immunotherapy for patients with cancer
  • Willing to work in a team
