Job Description


Cardiac sonographers, or echocardiographers, use non-invasive cardiovascular technology equipment to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with heart and blood vessel conditions. Cardiac sonographers image the heart to evaluate chamber size, valve function and blood flow. They review patient files and must be familiar with most cardiac conditions in order to recognize and identify abnormalities and alert Physicians for any life threatening conditions.

The echocardiographer should have excellent communication skills in order to convey scientific information on patient condition and diagnostics to doctors, should have good bedside manner for working with patients and a professional attitude with Physicians, colleagues and ancillary staff. The candidate will report to the Clinic Manager and include the Medical Director in all technical aspects of the job.

Job Duties

  • Performs Echo ultrasound on patients for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment of patients with heart and blood vessel conditions.
  • Explains procedures to patients.
  • Keeps ultrasound equipment and exam rooms clean at all times and keeps the rooms stocked with linens.
  • Performs Trans-thoracic echo, stress echo, and echo oncology.
  • Reviews/performs the echo for different research teams and follows their protocol.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant experience.
  • Registration as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with EPIC.
  • Familiarity with Digi Sonics system.
  • Familiarity with Echo Lab Accreditation Process
