PRN Registered Nurse (RN) Surgery – Open Heart Surgery

Mercy Hospital offers a wide range of surgical services. Whether patients require minimally invasive procedures or major surgeries, this surgical team is dedicated to providing patients with excellent care in a safe, family-friendly environment. This role fulfills one of the most vital programs to Cleveland Clinic and its history by contributing to the open-heart surgery team.
A PRN caregiver in this position has a weeknight on-call, weekend and holiday rotation. PRN caregivers in this position can also work Monday - Friday from 6:00AM - 4:30PM as needed.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Deliver professional nursing care in an operative setting to adult and pediatric patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.
Perform scrub functions, such as selecting and handling instruments and supplies.
Performing circulating functions, such as monitoring, recording and communicating patients’ conditions and managing the overall nursing care of patients before, during and after the procedure.
Assist the operating physician with surgical tasks, such as hemostasis, suturing, wound exposure and patient positioning.
Prepare the operating room, surgical instruments and surgical equipment for use.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Internal applicants: one year of recent related clinical experience.
External applicants: two years of recent related clinical experience.

Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
