Assistant Professor of Drama - Acting and Directing
Job Description
The Helmerich School of Drama at the University of Oklahoma seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Acting and Directing to start in August 2025. This is a nine-month faculty appointment with a 3/3 course load.
Responsibilities:
· Teach existing undergraduate courses in Introduction to Acting, Character Study for the Actor, Scene Study for the Actor, and Directing 1 & 2.
· Develop new courses in areas of specialty.
· Direct productions for the School of Drama, in either the University or Lab Theatre seasons, contributing positively to the pedagogical experiences of actors, designers, dramaturgs, and stage managers; mentor undergraduate student directors.
· Contribute to advising and recruitment of undergraduate students.
· Maintain an active research/creative activity profile beyond the local level
· Provide service to the department, college, university, and profession.

Housed in an R1 research institution, the School of Drama combines the advantages of a liberal arts education with conservatory-style BFA training in Acting, Costume Design, Dramaturgy, Lighting Design, Scenic Design, Stage Management, and Sound Design. The School comprises 25 full-time faculty and staff and 102 majors. We produce 9 University Theatre productions each year in collaboration with the Schools of Dance, Music, and Musical Theatre and 4–6 Lab Theatre productions.

Required qualifications include:
- An MFA in Acting/Directing and/or a PhD in Theatre/Performance Studies.
- Experience in the practice and pedagogy of actor training and directing.
- A professional profile in theatre, film, and/or television.
Preferred qualifications may include:
- Teaching and research/creative experience in global theatre.
- Experience directing productions at the university and/or professional level.
- Experience and/or interest in developing BFA curriculum for emerging professional needs in theatre, film, and television.
- Active union membership and professional affiliations.
