Job Description

The Specialist, Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL) Trainer prepares and conducts training for information systems courses in a classroom setting for traditional college courses and/or specialized workshops. The Specialist provides students with a combination of on-spot training and assistance with internet connectivity, Microsoft Office Suite, and digital literacy. Responsibilities will include coaching students and community members on technical support for networking and personal computer fundamentals, loaning out equipment, directing individuals to CSN services, developing lesson plans, facilitating engaging activities, assessing student progress, and promoting cultural sensitivity and diversity in the classroom.

The ideal candidate will have a strong educational and experiential background in teaching English to adult learners, specifically those in vocational training programs, and strong communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field from an accredited college or university; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

1 year experience teaching at a college or university level, coaching, training or workshop facilitation, or experience as High School Technology teacher.

Bilingual communication skills (English/Spanish).

Experience with any Learning Management System (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, etc.)

Experience with Instructional Technology for the delivery of course content.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field from an accredited college or university.

Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or closely related field from an accredited college or university.

Active certifications MOS, A+, Network+, Security+, etc.

TESOL/TEFL/CASAS Certification.

Microsoft Office Suite Certification.

Teaching experience at the College or University level in English-as-a-Second Language.

Experience with Language laboratory & multi-media teaching technologies for adult second language learners.

The ideal candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Ability to facilitate IT Workshops in English/Spanish.

Knowledge of instructional resources and developing IT training and workshops and lesson plans.

Ability to provide technical support for community members and assistance in loaning out equipment.

Ability to effectively assess and monitor student progress.

Ability to assist with internet connectivity.

Excellent customer service and verbal written and communication skills.

Flexibility to work daytime/evenings, availability at any of the CSN locations, with a focus on Monday-Fridays during morning and/or afternoon hours, possibly with Saturday sessions.

Salary information:

Administrative Faculty B - The starting salary is $39,123.

This position is funded by grant dollars and is contingent upon ongoing and available funding, and is funded through 2/28/2025.
