College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy is dedicated to understanding cellular function through state-of-the art research in areas such as autophagy and apoptosis, bone metabolism, developmental biology, molecular motors, dysphagia/swallowing disorders, exosome biology, renal disease, stem cell research, vision science (retina and cornea), and cell wounding. Our department is dedicated to understanding cellular function through state-of-the art research in areas such as autophagy and apoptosis, bone metabolism, developmental biology, molecular motors, dysphagia/swallowing disorders, exosome biology, renal disease, stem cell research, vision science (retina and cornea), and cell wounding. The Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy has as its core mission the advancement of outstanding research and education. We work collaboratively to discover new knowledge through innovative biomedical research, to transmit that knowledge to students, and to train future researchers, educators, and health care professionals.

Job Summary

Perform and document a variety of complex virological, molecular biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, dissection and statistical/computational procedures; perform analyze research results, prepare results for presentation at meetings, in publications and in grant applications; maintain/prepare laboratory reagents; work with mice, including colony maintenance (e.g., weaning/genotyping) and experimental procedures (e.g., tissue harvest, injection of study compounds); assist in ordering supplies, laboratory equipment and chemicals; maintain and operate laboratory equipment and schedules, assist with record keeping, laboratory clean-up; assist with technical aspects of experiments with trainees; participate in cell culture procedures and analyses of tissues; ensure compliance with rules and regulations pertaining to use of bio hazardous materials (Biological safety), chemicals (chemical safety), anesthetic drugs (DEA, IACUC), and experimental animals (LAS, IACUC). Conduct library searches and other research of scientific literature. All other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

• Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science, or a clinical setting particularly clinical trials research and minimum of two years of applicable experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong multi-tasking, prioritization, and organizational skills.

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality. Willingness and ability to work with research animals.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift:Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).

Pay Grade: R11

Salary range: $31,200-$39,200 annually.

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
