College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.

Job Summary

The Nurse Clinician provides skilled nursing care for both the routine primary care and specialized care needs of patients served by the AU Ryan White Program. This position is responsible for identifying, monitoring, and coordinating the service needs of the patients as provided by Infectious Disease and other providers both at AU Health and in the community. This position works with management and physician leaders to identify and comply with quality assurance criteria in the provision of care as specified by federal and institutional mandates. The Nurse Clinician also supports research activities as requested, and performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited:

• Attend clinic and intake to provide skilled nursing care based on need. Evaluates and adjusts plans of care as appropriate to facilitate desired outcome. Coordinate other appointments for medical and diagnostic care as referred by the physician. Educate patients and monitor their compliance with treatments regimens. Perform other nursing duties as directed by medical staff.
• Coordination of care in collaboration with service providers and clinical case managers to meet clinical the clinical needs of the assigned team. Identification of client needs assess status of functional, psychological, social, environmental, financial, and other support systems as factors in the development of goals and care plans.
• Efficient and appropriate management of all cases. He/she will be responsible for ensuring patients meet standards of HAB measures including HIV Viral Load Suppression, Prescription of HIV Antiretroviral Therapy, HIV medical Visit Frequency, Gap in HIV Medical Visits, and PCP Prophylaxis.
• Follow the lead of and report to Nurse Manager to ensure quality care on assigned clinical team.
• Provide accurate and timely documentation to support the reporting requirements for both nursing and administrative review.
• Participate in quality assurance review and assessment as requested and/or mandated by federal or institutional directive.
• Perform all other related duties/tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university, active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia, and a minimum of three years of clinical experience in a specialized area. Must possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification

OR

Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university, licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia, and a minimum of six years of clinical experience in a specialized area. Must possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification.

Preferred Qualifications

HIV/AIDS Experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Knowledge of good clinical practices and IRB requirements, patient evaluation procedures, and medical terminology. Knowledge of the Ryan White Program.

SKILLS

Basic clinical skills. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong prioritization, organizational, typing and multi-tasking skills.

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality. Must be self-motivated. Ability to maintain confidentiality; interpret lab tests/x-rays; exercise sound judgment and make responsible decisions; work independently; and work flexible hours to include, early mornings, after hours, nights and weekends, and on-call two weeks per month.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Salary: {Min-Mid or list up to the budgeted amount which should not be more than the midpoint}

Pay Grade: 21

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
