Job Description

Applications are sought for the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work under the supervision of Dr. Alexander R. A. Anderson on an exciting inter-disciplinary research project focused on the Delta Ecology of Non Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC).  We seek a talented individual with a PhD and background in applied mathematics, physics or other computational discipline to work in the unique research environment of the Integrated Mathematical Oncology (IMO) Department. IMO integrates mathematicians, computer scientists, and physicists together with evolutionary biologists as well as clinical and experimental oncologists to develop novel approaches for the treatment and understanding of cancer. Further details on the type of research being carried out in the Anderson lab can be found Here.

 

Position Highlights:

  • The successful fellow will have the opportunity to directly interact with the greater CSBC community, since this project is part of the NCI Cancer Systems Biology Consortium (CSBC).
  • Clinical data driven project with multiple temporal patient biopsies and a opportunity to work closely with Lung Oncologists, immunologists and cancer biologists.
  • Analysing multiplex imaging to drive ecological biomarkers of treatmet response
  • Developing mathematical models that directly support clinical treatment decisions in a patient specific manner.

 

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience in modelling biological systems, with a preference for those with knowledge of cancer.
  • Demonstrated creativity, high motivation, good communication skills and importantly, experience in developing/ writing publications in quality peer reviewed scientific journals.
  • Possess the ability to work independently and within the research group.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to code (Java/Python/), visualize and analyze data.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate clearly and openly, and present research results on local and national platforms.
  • Perform independent research.
  • Meet with team leader and members frequently.
  • Build relationships across research disciplines to promote a collaborative research environment.

 

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • MD or PhD in applied mathematics, physics, or a computational discipline.
