What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking an R&D Electronics Engineer to join our dynamic team in a Project Lead role, transitioning into the role of Product Realization Team (PRT) Lead, for an exciting new project. Our department designs and verifies fixed-function ASICs, programmable system-on-chip ICs, FPGA designs, embedded software, and hardware to verify, validate, and implement those products.
On any given day you may be called on to:
- Provide leadership to ensure the success of the Project Team/PRT by ensuring timely and effective communication between the PRT, Systems customers, and management as the primary point-of-contact (POC) for the PRT.
- Work closely with Sandia Advanced and Exploratory Systems and Systems Analysis groups to understand future threat environments and devise solutions to meet those demands.
- Coordinate with other organizations to negotiate PRT requirements and work.
- Identify the resources required to support PRT objectives and collaborate with customers and PRT members to establish work scope and budget.
- Manage resources to ensure on-time, on-budget deliveries meeting quality objectives.
- Participate in schedule development using P6 Primavera.
- Work with the PRT to develop comprehensive design, verification, qualification, and production strategies and effectively document and communicate the resulting plans.
- Write reports, work issues, document design history, and present results/findings to various partners including peer engineers, management, and internal/external customers.
- Manage the product definition (drawings, specifications, etc.) and analyze data throughout the product life cycle to demonstrate sustained compliance with customer requirements.
- Anticipate and manage risks, identify viable alternates and lead the technical evaluations and decision-making process.
- Employ quality management systems and defect prevention techniques throughout the complete realization process (e.g. design for manufacturing, mistake proofing, etc.).
Occasional travel to customer, testing, and production facilities is required. Due to the nature of the work, at least 80% onsite work in New Mexico is required for this position.
Salary Range:
$109,300 - $217,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant STEM field plus five years relevant experience,
- Two or more years of project management or team leadership experience:
- Developing and managing budgets and schedule
- Identifying and delegating work to be done
- Ensuring timely and quality completion
- Interfacing with customers, management, and external partners
- An active DOE Q-level or equivalent security clearance required to start the role.
Qualifications We Desire:
Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant STEM field
- Experience with the development of Nuclear Weapon or other high-consequence products, including Realize Product Procedures, Engineering Authorizations, and related processes
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, including proven abilities in effective negotiation, delegation, and conflict resolution in diverse team environments
- Ability to integrate ideas and work effectively across diverse technical organizations
- Ability to balance multiple, sometimes conflicting, priorities
- Ability to travel.
- An active DOE Q-level or DoD TS security clearance.
About Our Team:
The Digital Design, Verification, and Embedded Software Department (Organization 5351) is responsible for design, development and support of electronic components that manage the arming and fuzing functions for the nuclear deterrent of this nation. The department specializes in digital logic design, as well as integrating software to control and test real-time embedded systems. Current responsibilities include the design, development, and qualification of controller and other digital designs destined for Air Force and Navy systems and Advanced Controller concepts for future, responsive weapon systems. 5351 is responsible for the realization and qualification of Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs), supporting circuit design (both analog and digital), verification, qualification, and supporting integration activities into the next level of assembly.

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
