Summary

We are seeking a talented individual for a full-time on-site position to join our team at Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC). This position is located within IQuESt, the Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety. We are the largest center for Health Services Research within the Southwest. We conduct high-quality, scientific research that improves the health of patients across the nation, by helping to ensure the patient-centered delivery of scientific discoveries. We are seeking someone to coordinate grant-funded research projects that involve multiple departments and institutions. Many of the research projects are investigator initiated, and the Research Coordinator III will have independence in bringing these projects to life by helping secure regulatory approvals and preparing summaries of results for presentations and progress reports.

The Research Coordinator III will be responsible for timely execution of key deliverables and resolving logistical challenges to carrying out multi-site clinical research projects. The focus of the research program is antibiotic stewardship or helping prevent emergence multidrug resistant superbugs. Our mission is to preserve effective antibiotics for future generations. Additionally, the RC III may function as backup/support for sponsored clinical trials at Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center.

Job Duties

  • Manages the daily operation of multiple research projects.
  • Screens and enrolls subjects in clinical trials.
  • Follows subjects enrolled in clinical trial, entering data and addressing queries.
  • Handles administrative tasks related to research, such as scheduling meetings with co-investigators, securing travel approvals, submitting expenses for reimbursement from study accounts, etc.
  • Performs project analyses and evaluates resources, outcomes, and obstacles to project completion.
  • Serves as liaison between investigators, external and internal collaborators, institutional officials, and granting agency officials.
  • Presents and/or assists in the preparation of presentations related to designated grants or related topics, including assistance with annual progress reports and completing renewals.
  • Monitors research budget and justification of expenditures in conjunction with the designated Principal Investigator(s)
  • Verifies eligibility of patients for enrollment in studies based on comprehensive inclusion and exclusion criteria outlined in the protocol.
  • Maintains study subject files. Ensures scientific integrity of data and protects the rights, safety, and well-being of patients enrolled in clinical trials.
  • Adheres to Baylor College of Medicine and MEDVAMC Standard Operating Procedures.
  • May perform EKGs/ECGs and obtain vital signs or other biometric information on study participants.
  • Performs research related procedures as required such as venipuncture (blood draws) on study participants.
  • May collect, process, ship, and maintain paperwork for blood and/or biological specimens
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical degree.
  • Experience working as a Research Coordinator.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
