POSITION INFORMATION:  The Occupational Therapy Program Academic Program Director is responsible for day-to-day management and administration of the program in collaboration with the administrative Assistant Program Director, the Departmental Chair and DPT Program Director.

PROGRAM DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Accreditation: Respond with honesty and integrity during all interactions with the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) in preparing timely reports as required for continued accreditations, and insure the timely payment of accreditation fees.
  • Program Planning: Participation in all committees and planning groups instrumental to planning for the needs of the Program, including Executive Committee, Professional Program Strategic Planning Work Group Committee, curriculum review, Faculty Meetings, OT Program Advisory Board, Annual OT Strategic Planning Retreat, Mid-Year Retreat, and Annual Summer Retreat; Communicate with the Department Chair regarding Program, faculty, and student needs. 
  • Program Evaluation:  Responsible for establishing and tracking program evaluation strategies consistent with the strategic plan; collaborate with the academic fieldwork coordinator (AFWC) for analysis of fieldwork data and with strategic planning work groups for analysis of professional program data, post-professional program data, research data, and service data; make changes in the strategic plan based on program evaluation, and write annual evaluation report. 
  • Budgeting:  Responsible for collaboration with department chair and staff accountant for budget planning and reconciliation.
  • Faculty Development:  Support faculty to reach annual teaching, research, and service goals necessary to support the mission and assign duties accordingly.
  • Student Management:  Support recruitment in conjunction with the College of Allied Health Office of Student and Academic Affairs; participate in the admissions process; assist with new student orientation; solicit and respond to student feedback; provide academic advisement as needed, and support student leadership and activities.  
  • Selection and Supervision of Personnel:  Participate in the search committee process for selection of new staff and faculty including faculty recruitment and provide day-to-day supervision/mentoring as needed.
  • Teaching, Research and Service:  As chosen, or assigned by type of faculty position, to meet the mission of the University, College, Department, and Program. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Occupational Therapist with an earned post-professional doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DSc, or OTD)
  • Be an initially certified occupational therapist who is licensed in Oklahoma or that meets all eligibility requirements for Oklahoma licensure.   
  • Per ACOTE 2023 Standards, the candidate must have eight years of documented experience in occupational therapy. This experience must include:
    • Clinical practice
    • Administrative experience in preparation for the management and administration of the OTD program, including but not limited to, program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation, and budgeting.
    • Scholarship (e.g., scholarship of application, teaching, or learning).
    • Understanding the role of the occupational therapy assistant.
    • Four years of experience as a faculty member with teaching responsibilities at the postbaccalaureate level with documentation of:
      • Current expertise in assigned area of teaching.
      • Effective in teaching and evaluation of learning

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong team and individual interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Contemporary knowledge in the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework, occupational therapy theories and practice models.
  • Clinical and teaching experience with a variety of populations and classes.
  • Evidence of innovative solutions in teaching, practice, or research.
  • Experience in distance technology and electronic learning management platforms.
