What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a R&D Computer Science Software Developer to work on a dynamic team dedicated to the development and maintenance of software applications used by organizations across the satellite enterprise. Our team uses a variety of languages in developing our software applications including Java, C#, C++, PHP, JQuery, Go, PL/SQL, and PERL.

We develop, host and administer our own databases which include Oracle, MySQL, Mongo and SQLServer and use a variety of methods to realize this mission including using incremental model, agile and waterfall methodologies. While the position requires rigor throughout the development lifecycle, opportunities exist for creative software development solutions.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Gather requirements and develop software applications.
  • Conduct testing, maintenance, and enhancement of software applications.
  • Write scripts to ingest data coming from satellite ground systems.
  • Possess strong dedication to positive teaming dynamics essential for successful collaboration on a team of system users and customer management.

This is an opportunity to become involved in a high visibility program area that manages the full range of remote sensing space system payloads and ground system software. Improved design, development, realization, and quality are all major thrusts of our program. Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$109,300 - $217,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or computer engineering or other relevant STEM degree plus five or more years of relevant experience or master's degree in the above stated fields plus two years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with software design, development skills, and modern software development practices and tools.
  • Experience (included in the requirement experience above) with developing software in languages such as C, C++, Java, etc.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a required DOE security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master's degree in computer science or software engineering
  • Strong written and verbal skills, detail oriented with a keen focus on customer service
  • Experience in programming Python, C#
  • Linux experience
  • Linux System Administration experience a plus
  • Relational database experience (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle)
  • Experience with Oracle DB a plus
  • Experience using version control tools such as git in a configuration-controlled software environment
  • CI/CD tools such as Maven, Jenkins, Gitlab, GitHub, or Docker
  • Experience in testing frameworks such as UnitTest, JUnit
  • Current and active DOE "Q" security clearance or "L" clearance with ability to obtain a "Q".

About Our Team:

Our Mission Software Development and Integrated Solutions team is responsible for developing software and hardware solutions to complex science and engineering problems throughout the Satellite enterprise using industry standard practices and methodologies particularly for the Global Burst Detector (GBD) program. We also serve as the Control Account Manager (CAM) for the GBD Payload Processor (GPP) and Optical Processing for the GBD payload, providing project lead support and developer resources.

Our Center 6700 applications and hardware solutions include: classified standalone networks; custom server builds; VM hosting; large data storage arrays and backups; private network; cyber security; software interfaces to hardware; tracking engineering change orders; capturing nonconformity issues; configuration management and document control solutions; software bug tracking; routings and work-in-process functions; lab temperature and humidity monitoring; Oracle manufacturing custom interfaces; a host of reporting capabilities
