Job Description


The Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology is seeking an Assistant Professor conducting research in the area of host/microbiome interactions. Applicants must have a PhD or MD with 5 years of Postdoctoral experience. Specifically, we are interested in candidates investigating the role of the microbiome on infant development and physiology. Candidates with expertise with in vitro models for assessing microbiome function and interactions with human pediatric samples are preferred. Additional experience in computational modeling is desired.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will lead a research team in understanding how human infant microbiomes impact development and physiology. They will direct the cultivation of infant microbiomes for functional characterization in animal and human organoid models. Written and oral communication of results is required. The ideal candidate will be expected to apply for independent grant funding.

Additional tasks and responsibilities specific to your department/functional area for this position/role:

  • The successful candidate may participate in teaching activities within the department including classroom instruction and serving on thesis advisory committees.

If the position supervises others:

  • At this time, this position will not be responsible for formal supervision of others.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph. D or MD with a minimum qualification of five years of Postdoctoral experience is required. Previous experience with in vitro models of cultivating human microbial communities is required. Expertise in computational modeling of metagenomic data is desired.
